There you have it. Now spread the word!

Juliet MD

October is breast cancer awareness month. Or, Breast Awareness Month.

In our lifetime, 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer. That’s a lot of women who will face this devastating diagnosis. Risk increases with age, delayed childbirth, obesity, having more than 2 drinks a day and, the presence of defective genes (BRAC 1 and 2).

We can reduce the risk of developing breast cancer with exercising, drinking minimally and getting tested for BRAC (if there is a significant family history). Also, if we choose to have children, breast feeding also helps to reduce the chance of getting this breast disease.

Note, New York Times, Health Section has a great, very readable, review on breast cancer.
